CASTELL DEL GARX
A route that combines history, stone and endless panoramic views

The route to Castell de Garx is steeped in history and natural beauty. It combines a moderately steeped in ascent with the opportunity to discover a medieval fortress perched atop a rocky ridge, offering spectacular views of the Marina Baixa and Benidorm Bay.

Step-by-step tour

The route begins near Bolulla, following a path that crosses areas of Mediterranean scrub and ancient terraces. As you advance, the vegetation opens up, revealing the first panoramic views of the mountains and the fields surrounding the valley.

The trail ascends gently at first, crossing stretches of cobbled paths and traditional trails until it approaches Penya del Castellet, a prominent rocky outcrop that dominates the landscape. The final stretch becomes steeper and more challenging, preparing the hiker for the arrival at Garx Castle, perched on the crest of the rock.

Garx Castle is a small fortress, adapted to the unevenness of the ridge. Its defenses are impregnable from the north, east, and south, allowing access only from the west, where the slope drops precipitously. In addition to the castle, the route offers a chance to enjoy Mediterranean flora, panoramic views, and the feeling of a protected mountain, combining physical challenge with the contemplation of historical heritage.

The route is circular, returning along the same path to the starting point, completing a walk of approximately 6–8 km that can be completed in about 3 hours, ideal for those seeking history, exercise, and memorable landscapes in a single trip.
